One of my absolute favorite parts about being a milestone and family photographer is getting to watch your baby grow right before my lens!
That’s why I am completely obsessed with our Baby Milestone Plan. As a mama, you already know that your baby changes so fast. One minute they are a sleepy newborn nestled in your arms, and the next, they are pulling themselves up and flashing a toothy grin. Pre-scheduling these milestone sessions ensures that every single fleeting detail of your baby’s first 18 months is professionally documented—without the stress of realizing you forgot to book until the moment has passed.
How Baby Milestone Sessions Work
Our milestone sessions are designed to capture the three most magical, transitionary stages of your baby’s first 18 months:
- 6 Months (The Sitting Session): Celebrating that sweet stage when your baby can sit up confidently on their own but isn’t quite running away from the camera yet!
- 12 Months (The First Birthday Session): The big milestone! A beautiful celebration of your baby turning one, complete with all their newfound independence.
- 18 Months (The Toddlerhood & Family Session): A session dedicated to their bursting personality, which can focus solely on your toddler or include the whole family.
When to Book Your Milestone Plan
Many parents choose to secure their milestone plan right during their newborn ordering appointment. Planning ahead ensures your spot is guaranteed on our studio calendar, taking the guesswork and logistics off your plate during those incredibly busy first months. You get to focus entirely on enjoying your baby; I’ll handle the rest.
What to Expect From Each Milestone
1. The 6-Month Sitting Session
At six months, your baby’s true personality is starting to shine. They are full of gummy smiles, belly laughs, and genuine curiosity about the world.
My Absolute Favorite Stage: I always tell parents that my absolute favorite time to photograph a six-month-old is when they are sitting beautifully unassisted but not yet crawling. It allows us to keep them in one spot, capturing those adorable chunky thigh rolls, big bright eyes, and their proud new skill!
- The Aesthetic: We keep things beautifully simple, light, and bright. My studio provides gorgeous minimalist props, timeless chairs, and a curated wardrobe of delicate outfits so your baby remains the star of the show.
- Personal Touches: You are always welcome to bring along a favorite heirloom toy or a special book to add a unique, sentimental touch to the images.
2. The 12-Month First Birthday Session
The big one-year milestone is here! Your baby is likely standing, taking tentative first steps, and babbling away. This session is all about celebrating the immense joy of their first year.
- Themes & Playful Setups: First birthday sessions are a wonderful mix of classic portraiture and festive fun. Cake smashes are a studio favorite and make for the most delightfully messy photos!
- Think Outside the Cake: Don’t feel limited to a traditional cake, either. I love working with parents to customize the session. Over the years, we’ve done first-birthday smashes with giant watermelon slices, cupcakes, donuts—and your imagination is truly the limit!
- Studio Comfort: Our bright, controlled studio environment means we have perfect lighting and a comfortable space to capture the excitement of this big day without worrying about the weather outside.
3. The 18-Month Session
By 18 months, you officially have a toddler! They are walking, running, climbing, and showing off their vibrant little spirits.
- Family & Sibling Involvement: While we always get gorgeous solo shots of your toddler, most of my clients choose to turn this milestone into a family session. It’s the perfect opportunity to capture the beautiful, authentic bonds and daily interactions of your family life. (Sometimes, families even use this 18-month session as a creative pregnancy announcement, which is always an honor to photograph!)
- Capturing Their “Tricks”: Before this session, I will send you a quick questionnaire to learn more about your toddler’s current favorite things and their latest tricks—whether that’s climbing, running, or mimicking words—so we can ensure we document exactly who they are right now.
- A Storytelling Touch: Bringing items they love makes the session incredibly personal. One of my favorite 18-month sessions featured a sweet toddler “reading” Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go!—a memory that family will cherish forever.

Mamas, I want you to show up to the studio, pour yourself a cup of coffee, and actually enjoy this experience. It is my job to make this entirely stress-free.
You do not need to spend hours shopping for coordinating outfits or hunting down props. Our studio wardrobe is fully stocked with high-end, neutral, and timeless clothing for your little ones, alongside beautiful minimalist props and custom cake smash setups. I take care of all the heavy lifting and styling so you don’t have to.
Quick Tips for a Flawless Session:
- Naps & Feeding Trump Everything: A well-fed, well-rested baby is a happy baby! If your little one’s sweet spot is 8:00 AM right after breakfast, that is exactly when we will schedule your session.
- Familiar Comforts: Bringing a favorite lovey or blanket can help your baby feel secure and at home in the studio space.
- Puffs & Snacks are Welcome: Never underestimate the power of your baby’s favorite snack. A few puffs or a quick bottle break is often all it takes to happily get us to the finish line of a gorgeous session!
