If someone in your village—a sister, a best friend, or a daughter—is about to give birth, your first instinct is likely to shower the new arrival with love. You might find yourself scanning baby registries for the softest organic onesies or the cutest plush elephants. But if you’re planning a hospital visit, we want to let you in on a little secret we’ve learned from working behind the lens with hundreds of growing families: the baby is well taken care of; it’s the new mom who needs your extra love.
Hospital bags are packed with care, but reality often reveals a few gaps. If you want to be the ultimate support system, skip the newborn outfits (which they won’t wear until they go home anyway) and bring her things that offer comfort, nourishment, and a little touch of home.
