There is something profoundly moving about a “full circle” moment in a photography studio. In the heart of the summer of 2025, we had the absolute joy of welcoming the Karpuzi family back through our doors. While every session holds a special place in our hearts, there is a unique magic that happens when a family trusts you to document their story over the span of several years. As a Moorestown NJ Newborn Photographer, I first met this wonderful crew back in 2023 for their daughter’s newborn session. Seeing how much life has changed since those quiet, sleepy first days—and how much their daughter has transformed from a tiny bundle into a spirited toddler—is nothing short of incredible. This visit wasn’t just a portrait session; it was a dual-milestone celebration. We were there to capture the bubbly, independent energy of their daughter’s second birthday and the adorable, gummy-grinned curiosity of their son Aiden’s six-month “half-birthday.”
A Gentle Start in the Studio
We began the morning in the quiet sanctuary of our indoor studio. For families with toddlers and infants, we find that a “slow-thaw” approach works best. We started with young Aiden, who is currently at that delicious stage where the world is one big mystery waiting to be solved.
To help him feel at home, his parents brought along a set of classic wooden blocks that spelled out his name. Set against our signature minimalist white backdrop, these props allowed Aiden’s personality to shine without distraction. There is something so timeless about a baby playing on a clean, bright set—it highlights every velvet roll of skin and every spark of wonder in their eyes. The white set is purposefully designed to be a “blank canvas” where toddlers can get acquainted with the space and feel comfortable before the “big” photos begin.
Of course, safety is our North Star. During these active milestone sets, we always have a dedicated assistant stationed just inches away. Whether it’s a sudden topple from a sitting baby or a quick “toddler dash,” we ensure the environment is as secure as it is beautiful.
Siblings, Smiles, and a Very Special Guest
No Karpuzi family session would be complete without their first “baby”—Teddy, the family dog. Teddy is a seasoned pro in the studio by now, and his calm, fluffy presence always adds a layer of warmth to the frame. Capturing sibling portraits is one of the most rewarding challenges of our job, and including a “fur-sibling” makes it all the more special.
Elona, as always, had an impeccable eye for styling. The classic color palette of soft pinks for her daughter and gentle blues for Aiden created a harmonious, “sweet-as-candy” aesthetic. Seeing the two-year-old “big sister” interact with her six-month-old brother—with Teddy watching over them both—offered a glimpse into the lifelong bond they are currently building.
Golden Hour in the Summer Garden
Once we captured those polished studio portraits, we decided to take advantage of the ethereal summer weather. Just a short, breezy walk from the studio doors lies Jackie’s private flower garden. We cultivate this space every season to ensure there is always a lush, living backdrop for our families.
As the evening began to cool, we transitioned outdoors. The garden was in full bloom, offering a tapestry of textures and colors that can’t be replicated indoors. There is a different kind of energy that takes over when children hit the grass; their shoulders drop, their smiles become a bit more organic, and we are able to capture those “in-between” moments of a family simply existing in the beauty of nature. The soft, amber light of the setting sun filtered through the petals, creating a dreamy, painterly backdrop for their updated family portraits.
The Priceless Value of the Journey
Parenthood is a whirlwind. One moment you are cradling a newborn, and the next, you are chasing a two-year-old through a garden while balancing a six-month-old on your hip. It is a season of life that is as exhausting as it is beautiful, and it passes with terrifying speed.
We are deeply honored that families like the Karpuzis continue to trust us with their legacy. Watching these children grow from tiny newborns into little people with distinct personalities is the greatest perk of being a photographer. Having these moments captured throughout the years is truly priceless.
