Making Waves: A Marine-Themed First Birthday Session | Burlington NJ Milestone Photographer
We had the distinct pleasure of welcoming Jen and her beautiful family into our studio in early May 2025 for a super sweet milestone session. As you can see, her youngest daughter, Chloe, just turned one year old, and we celebrated her special day with an unforgettable first birthday session, featuring an adorable marine-themed cake smash set.

We commenced Chloe’s special day with heartwarming “Mommy and Me” photos, capturing the tender bond between her and her mom, as well as precious moments with her older sister. In our studio, we always encourage toddlers to roam around freely and get comfortable with the space, allowing us to capture authentic, genuine smiles that reflect their true joy. Sibling photos hold immense importance for us; capturing the unique and irreplaceable bond between siblings is truly special. It was clear that the two sisters were having an absolute blast, giggling, smiling, and hugging each other throughout the session. We simply adore the unbridled joy that toddlers bring into the studio, filling the space with infectious laughter and boundless energy.
“Mommy and Me” photos are always incredibly sweet, as they beautifully showcase the profound love and tenderness shared between a mother and her baby, and vice versa. We made sure to capture a plethora of heartwarming images of Mom with her two darling girls, and we absolutely loved the matching denim overalls she chose for her daughters, paired with the charming white headbands adorned with cute bows.

Denim and white T-shirts are a timeless and classic option for family portraits, offering a clean and cohesive look that complements various backdrops. We adore this combination, as it exudes a sense of effortless style and unity. The idea of siblings wearing matching outfits is undeniably cute, as it creates a sense of camaraderie and allows them to recreate these precious photos when they’re older, evoking fond memories and strengthening their bond.
Once we had completed the solo portraits, “Mommy and Me” photos, and sibling photos, we seamlessly transitioned to the next exciting set! The custom cake smash set that Jen thoughtfully chose for her daughter’s backdrop was a delightful marine-themed spectacle. Jen opted for a vibrant palette of pink, tan, orange, and turquoise-colored balloons for the custom garland, creating a visually stunning and festive atmosphere.

To enhance the marine theme, we incorporated various props that we have readily available in the studio for such occasions, including seashells and starfish. Jen selected a delectable white cake for her daughter’s cake smash, and Chloe absolutely adored it! The seashells and starfish props perfectly complemented her adorable seashell crown, adding an extra touch of whimsy and charm to the set. How adorable!
Of course, once we had captured a variety of solo portraits of Chloe gleefully enjoying her first birthday cake, her big sister eagerly joined in on the fun, helping her celebrate this momentous occasion. The two sisters shared sweet smiles, and the pure joy on their faces was heartwarming. We are so happy to have had Jen and her baby girls in the studio, celebrating such a wonderful milestone in her daughter’s life. The bond between siblings is so special, and we are incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to capture it in our studio.
