We welcomed Chris and his wife into our Southampton, New Jersey studio for their son’s newborn portraits. Although, newborn sessions are all about the baby we always want to include the parents when they are willing. Thankfully, that’s the case for most sessions! Chris and his wife have opted for our Baby Plan so we will be seeing them again for their son’s first birthday photo shoot. For this session, we took classic sleepy-baby poses and full family portraits, made custom sets for the baby, and captured their son’s ever-changing features.
First, we began with the solo portraits as mom got her hair and make-up done. During this time, Jackie expertly wraps their baby with precision. Actually, seeing Jackie wrap babies is one of my favorite parts of each session. Not only does Jackie wrap the babies, but she soothes them and gets them back to sleep with ease. She is truly an expert. Chris and his wife wanted a simple theme throughout their Baby Plan and wanted a very clean and simple look. As you can see, we kept their son’s newborn session mostly white and bright. We love the dress that Chris’ wife brought to the session, the lace is beautiful and provides a subtle contrast to her portraits.
Of course, we carefully paced their son in multiple sets with multiple props. We love using our tiny props like our white and brown crib and the various buckets we place them in. Clearly, their baby boy was a very sleepy boy that morning and slept throughout the entire session. Once we were done with the solo portraits, we transitioned to our white room where we took mommy-and-me and daddy-and-me photos. Certainly, Jackie expertly posed them for their full family pictures and they look absolutely dreamy. In fact, Chris brought along their baby’s grandparents so we had to get the full family together for a portrait.
We concluded the session with our classic light and bright portraits. We absolutely love this set and love to incorporate it when we can. We are so happy to have had Chris and his beautiful family in the studio for their son’s first photo shoot. We are already looking forward to planning his first birthday session in just a few months. Why choose a simple newborn session?

The photographer might also incorporate a few personal items, like a family heirloom or a favorite toy, to add a touch of personalization without overwhelming the simplicity of the setup.
Ultimately, simple newborn photography aims to capture the pure essence of a newborn in a timeless and elegant manner. The resulting images are often cherished keepsakes that families treasure for years to come, preserving the fleeting moments of their baby’s earliest days.
